A couple were terrified when a tow truck tried to tow them while driving through San Francisco!
"We were at a stoplight and minding our own business," said Joanne, who described running errands with her husband. The couple was stopped at a light, when a yellow Specialty Towing truck moved toward an autonomous vehicle, but then pulled in front of their car.
"He came from the side. I thought he was turning right. He started in reverse, and all the lights came on. That's when we were like, 'hey, something's really wrong. His lever was coming down,'" she said.
The tow made several attempts to hook onto their Toyota Corolla, and when the light turned green, the Waymo vehicle drives off, and Joanne's husband is able to drive away. The tow truck gave chase for several blocks, before the couple got away.
The tow company, has been charged in the past by City Attorney David Chiu for fraud and illegally towing parked cars, and specialty Towing is prohibited from bidding or receiving city contracts.
Joanne is planning to file a police report, and is sharing their story to raise awareness.
"Be more careful when they're driving around and making sure if something doesn't look right, make sure you do your best to protect yourself," she said.
